Every year, Team MiraKind comes together for one special event that helps fuel our mission beyond the generosity of our regular donors. This year, that event was the ASICS Falmouth Road Race, where 19 dedicated runners laced up their shoes to support the science that makes MiraKind unique.

Clad in bright pink jerseys, Team MiraKind joined thousands of runners on the iconic seven-mile course along Cape Cod. From the excitement at the starting line to the cheers along the route—and yes, even that infamous hill (or two) that everyone warned us about—it was a wonderful day for the team.

Every mile represented something bigger than the finish line. Every step helped move us closer to a future where cancer treatment is personalized for every patient.

Team MiraKind Runs on Science

At MiraKind, we’re advancing a new approach to personalized cancer care. Our research is the first of its kind to use inherited genetic biomarkers to predict how a patient’s healthy cells and their cancer are likely to respond to treatment. Because cancer therapy doesn’t just affect the cancer, it affects the rest of the body, too. Understanding these genetic differences can help patients and their physicians make more informed treatment decisions.

Thank You for Moving Our Mission Forward

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our supporters, we’re closing in on our fundraising goal of $28,000. Your support goes to our mission, which allows us to educate patients and families about these genetic biomarkers, advance research into how they can help prevent and better treat disease, and expand access to their meaningful applications in cancer care.

If you haven’t yet had the chance to donate, there’s still time to help us close the gap. Please help us get there!

Together, we can make sure everyone feels supported by giving patients and their doctors the trusted resources they need to make informed decisions for their treatment and care.

All donations are tax-deductible. MiraKind is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. EIN 46-4451492.

Research Milestones Made Possible by Your Support

Donations to MiraKind over the years have helped build our Research Registry that turns discoveries like the genetic biomarkers we study into tests available in the clinic. In just the past year, that work has moved forward in ways we’re excited to share. PROSTOX® is one result that gives prostate cancer patients and their doctors information to help guide radiation therapy decisions.

This September, the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) annual meeting will feature four new abstracts that build on this work. Three focus on prostate cancer, validating PROSTOX in new patient populations while deepening our understanding of the biology underlying the biomarkers the test analyzes. The fourth extends our research into head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC), demonstrating that these inherited biomarkers may help predict both treatment side effects and survival outcomes. Stay tuned—we’ll share the full findings from the ASTRO meeting in a dedicated blog post this September.

We know many of you have been eagerly awaiting this next update. In December, we’re finally presenting the results from the first phase of our long-awaited MHT study at the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium (SABCS). The findings build on how a woman’s genetics, including the KRAS-variant, determine whether menopausal hormone therapy (MHT), also known as hormone replacement therapy (HRT), increases or decreases breast cancer risk.

“Seeing this research reach ASTRO and SABCS this year reminds me why we started MiraKind in the first place—to make sure discoveries like these actually reach the people who need them.” — Joanne Weidhaas, MiraKind Founder
