curve-up2

Our founder, Dr. Joanne Weidhaas will be giving her first “TED talk” as an invited speaker at TEDxCulverCity on March 31, 2020!

Joanne is a radiation oncologist and cancer researcher, and she is the Director of the Division of Cellular and Molecular Oncology at UCLA. She’s also the founder of two companies, MiraDx and MiraKind, that focus on patient-centric research and education about unique microRNA-based cancer biomarkers.

During her talk, she’ll tell us about how our knowledge of our DNA has grown over the decades – opening the doors to a better understanding of personalized cancer risk and prevention! She’ll share with us an example of one of these biomarkers, the KRAS-variant, and how it’s not only a biomarker for cancer risk, but can also be used to help design strategies for cancer prevention, as well as help guide cancer treatment decisions.

The theme of TEDxCulverCity is “A Brighter Future”, and Joanne will be joined on the stage with three other inspiring speakers:

  • Billie Lee – Transgender activist & Official cast member of Vanderpump Rules on BravoTV
  • Steven Griffith – Author, speaker, researcher and performance expert considered one of the leading authorities on the connection between time, productivity and performance.
  • Marc Ian Barasch – Non-fiction author, film and television writer-producer, magazine editor, and founder of the Green World Campaign.

If you’re local to Culver City, this is a public event, and tickets can be purchased through the website at TEDxCulverCity.com.

For those unfamiliar with TED, it started as a small nonprofit, in 1984, bringing people together to share “Ideas Worth Spreading” from three disciplines – Technology, Entertainment, and Design. These ideas are shared in the form of a story or “TED Talk”, which last a maximum of 18 minutes. Since its inception, TED conferences have included speakers like Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, and Quincy Jones who have spoken alongside athletes and grass-root musicians.
