When our team came across a recent Los Angeles Times Article entitled, βOnce and for all: Hormone replacement is good for womenβ we were very intrigued. What we learned from this game-changing article brought us into a collaboration with like-minded leaders in the healthcare field who understand the importance of our innovative research that empowers women to make the best decisions possible for their long-term health.
MiraKind joins forces with Dr. Avrum Bluming and Dr. Carol Tavris
We feel lucky to be joining forces with Dr. Avrum Bluming and Dr. Carol Tavris, authors of the Los Angeles Times article referenced above and the book, βEstrogen Matters: Why Taking Hormones in Menopause Can Improve Womenβs Well-Being and Lengthen Their Lives – Without Raising the Risk of Breast Cancerβ to amplify the message that Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) is safe, effective, and beneficial for most women. In their book, Dr. Bluming, a medical oncologist, and Dr. Tavris, a social psychologist, investigate the complex history of HRT and paint a fuller picture of the science that supports it. Through meticulously researched case studies, Dr. Bluming and Dr. Tavris give the reader scientifically based reasoning to debunk the scary headlines that have put a shadow over the many benefits that HRT offers women as they enter menopause.
At MiraKind, we care very strongly about this clarifying story about HRT.
For women with the KRAS-variant, the inherited mutation at the heart of our studies, HRT may be of a particular benefit. Declining estrogen levels appear to trigger cancer in women with the KRAS-variant.1 Therefore, we are proponents of HRT as a preventative and a treatment method, considering other risks and benefits.
We recommend that all women read Dr. Bluming and Dr. Travisβ book, in order to educate themselves about the pros and cons of HRT in order to arm yourself with the information to be your own health advocate. We also encourage all women to get tested for the KRAS-variant as well, as this is one more piece of data on the decision regarding HRT. You can find Dr. Bluming and Travisβ book here.
